Festival of Homer – at home with Homer’s heroes: Mycenaean palaces

June 16 @ 10:30 am - 11:30 am

$30 – $40

THE EVENT

The world of the Homeric heroes is partly a fantasy and partly a dim cultural memory of the Mycenaean civilisation, which dominated Greece from around 1600-1200 BC. TICKETS HERE

Although they were written down in the 8th century BC, the Homeric epics contain memories of an earlier time, memories that were passed down orally from one generation to another for hundreds of years. They recall a period of wealth and splendour, in stark contrast to the struggling Greece of the 8th century.

THE SPEAKER

Professor Frank Sear takes us on a journey through the palaces left by the Mycenaeans, as we contemplate whether these were once the homes of the Homeric heroes.
